, by Matt Walton, 6 min reading time

The 5-liter oxygen concentrator by Drive Devilbiss Healthcare is considered to be one of the best stationary oxygen concentrators in the industry. It can alert the user to several alarms. These alarms include high/low pressure, low flow, low oxygen, and power failure.  The flowmeter provides oxygen flowrates from 0.5-5 LPM in 0.5-liter increments. The flowrate provided is continuous flow (not pulse).  The oxygen sensing device built into the concentrator is standard on every unit and ensures safety and reliability.  Upon receiving the concentrator it is ready to go directly out of the box.  Simply pull the concentrator from the packaging box, ensure that the green "tree" adaptor is connected to the oxygen port, and plug the concentrator into an outlet. The concentrator weighs 36 lbs. and rumor has it that Devilbiss will be launching a much lighter, smaller concentrator later this year (2024). The concentrator delivers up to 5 LPM at 93% oxygen concentration. The 525DS unit produces 48 decibels when in operation however Devilbiss has the ultra-quiet (SKU 525DS-Q) available that produces 46 decibels when in operation.  The unit comes with a 3-year manufacturer warranty. Should your unit require servicing (indicated by the visual "tool" alarm on the display) please contact Walton Medical and Walton Medical will provide details on how to have your unit returned to Devilbiss for servicing.  You can have this completed by emailing Walton Medical at or by calling 1.800.604.1567. Maintenance components for the 525DS 5-liter oxygen concentrator include the cabinet filter and the intake bacterial filter. The cabinet filters are sold as a pack of 6 and the intake bacterial filters are sold individually.
How Your DeVilbiss Oxygen Concentrator Works
Oxygen concentrators are the most reliable, efficient, and convenient source of supplemental oxygen available today. The oxygen concentrator is electrically operated. The unit separates oxygen from room air which allows high-purity supplemental oxygen to be delivered to you through the oxygen outlet. Although the concentrator filters the oxygen in a room, it will not affect the normal amount of oxygen in your room.
If you are utilizing your 525DS 5 Liter oxygen concentrator with a humidifier bottle please follow the provided steps listed below. A humidification bottle can be utilized to provide humidification to the nasal passage. Walton Medical does retail these as well and are great to have to prevent irritation and drying of the nasal passage.
Oxygen Tubing Connection With Humidification: If your physician has prescribed an oxygen humidifier as part of your therapy, follow these steps (If using a prefill, go to step b.:
A: Fill the humidifier bottle as per the manufacturer’s instructions.
b. Thread the wing nut located on the top of the humidifier bottle to the oxygen outlet so that it is suspended (Figure 2). Make sure it is securely tightened.
c. Attach the oxygen tubing directly to the humidifier bottle outlet fitting (Figure 3).
To check your Devilbiss oxygen concentrator and accessories for proper operation;
1. Check the output flow by placing the end of the nasal cannula under the surface of a half-full cup of water and look for the bubbles.
2. Check the system for leaks by bending the nasal prongs over and squeezing tight to stop the flow of oxygen. Look at the flow meter to see that the indicator ball on the flow meter drops to zero. If the indicator ball does not drop to zero, check all connections for possible leaks. Parts to check for leaks are tubing connections, humidifier bottles, and other accessories like firebreaks. Repeat these steps until the flow meter ball drops to zero. Contact your provider or service supplier immediately if you encounter any problems.
